Superior work comes from people who are excited about what they do. When Rutgers University, led by renowned researcher Martin Yarmush, M.D., Ph.D., set a goal to become a leading institution in biomedical engineering, they needed a state-of-the-art research and laboratory facility. Yarmush thought back to his first experience designing his own lab, then in a modest basement space, and the architectural firm behind it: KSS. At that time, KSS itself was a small practice just starting to get on its feet.

Since that early project, both Yarmush's and KSS' reputations had grown significantly and, to the delight of both parties, Rutgers University selected KSS Architects for the new laboratory project.

The resulting project is the Department of Biomedical Engineering building, a state-of-the-art 80,000 sf, $27 million project that has become a campus landmark. Recently, College Planning & Management magazine featured our project in its Facility Focus department in the January 2010 issue. Check it out! If you don't get the magazine, read about the award-winning project on our Web project page.

On Jan. 16, KSS' Edmund Klimek and Merilee Meacock joined nearly 400 revelers and philanthropists for the 22nd annual Eden Dreams gala. For many years, KSS has attended the annual white-tie event to support Eden Autism Services, a not-for-profit organization based in Princeton that provides educational and outreach services to adults and children with autism, as well as support for their family members.

KSS has been working with the Eden Institute in the planning and design of their new special needs school in Princeton Forrestal Village. The school will serve approximately 80 students ages 3 to 21 and house an early intervention program for infants and toddlers.

Held at the Hyatt Regency Princeton, the gala wowed all attendees with its theme "Dreams of Arcadia: The Search for Viridis." The splendid decor featured ecological and botanical plants and flowers and actors dressed up as gods and goddesses. The night's events included dinner, dancing and a silent auction.
